I’ve got something for you! Hit me up!!

I frowned at the message, not sure I wanted to bother. Skinny Jefferson had sent it, exclamation points and all, less than an hour ago. It was entirely possible he’d spotted something in one of his photographs, something that might break the case wide open, but I had a feeling it was far more likely he was still looking for a nude model.

I drummed my fingers lightly on the keyboard before typing a reply.

Send me what you’ve got. I read the short message five times before hitting SEND to make sure there was no way Skinny could misinterpret my meaning.

While I waited to see what he might have, I went back to perusing the internet, searching for anything that might explain the now-empty building I’d seen Johan enter. When I wasn’t doing that, I would flip over to Facebook and check the marathon page, looking for a post, a photo, anything that would tell me what might have happened to Glen Moreau.

I found nothing on either count.

Scrolling down to where Glen had made his own post before his death, I reread it, hoping to spot something in the way it was worded that would help solve his murder.

I’m going to make sure Rod Maxwell gets what’s coming to him.

If Rod Maxwell had been the victim, the post would have painted Glen as the most likely killer. Could it work in reverse? The two men argued during the marathon—or more accurately, Glen threatened Rod, who didn’t do much to defend himself before Trevor stepped in. Then Glen posted his threat. Both the verbal sparring and the post hinted that Glen knew something about Rod, something the other man wouldn’t want to get out.

That sounded like motive to me.

Add in the chat Rod had had with Alleah Trotter at the Banyon Tree, and then later, the fight with Calvin at Geraldo’s. It sure seemed like Rod was involved in more than just organizing a marathon. And Alleah sounded as if she were a part of whatever it was Rod was trying to keep secret. Could that have been what the fight between Rod and Calvin was about, despite what the men claimed?

My phone pinged twice, telling me I had a pair of waiting messages. I used my laptop to check them.

The first was from Cassie.

Scream for Ice Cream? Tomorrow at about tenish? I know it’s early, but I’ve got some errands to run and finish before noon. Let me know!

I considered it, and then agreed. Ice cream sounded great, and I was pretty sure I’d have enough time to get everything else I planned on doing in the morning done before then, despite ten being a smidge early for ice cream.

Who was I kidding? It was never too early for ice cream.

Before checking the second message, this one from Skinny, I picked up my phone and texted Vicki. We’d already made tentative plans, but I wanted to hammer down the details now. I was making time for Cassie and Trisha and Shannon.
